Santa Cruz, the fastest growing city in Bolivia, is laid out in anillos (rings) that are most concentrated in the centre. Santa Cruz is not quite how you imagine a Bolivian city so if your looking for the real Bolivia it's not the best place to explore.
In the first anillo you will find the cathedral, which is beautifully carved inside, it also has a museum there that houses a collection of religious artefacts. Central park and the cultural theatre are in anillo one too.
In anillo two you can find the Siete Calles market for local goods. Out in the third anillo the Jardin Zoologico is home to many endangered and exotic species and slow moving sloths hanging around in trees.
Two hours from Santa Cruz is Buena Vista, which has access to the Parque Nacional Amboro. Here there are three distinct eco-systems: the Amazon Basin, the northern Chaco and the Andes. An interesting onward tour from Santa Cruz.
