
The capital of Nicaragua, Managua, on the southern shore of Lake Managua is home to more than a quarter of Nicaragua's population. There are several of Managua's attractions around the Plaza de la Republica including the National Cathedral and the National Palace.
The musical fountain is spectacular every night at dusk and is surrounded by magnificent buildings that add to the magical atmosphere of the fountain.
There are many great artists in Managua and a visit to an art gallery shouldn't be missed and also the opportunity to pick up some local art from the Central Market.
For great views over the city take a trip to Tiscapa Hill where you can see the city and the lake as well as the Footprints of Acahualinca.

Augusto C. Sandino International Airport is the main airport in Managua, Nicaragua. Inaugurated as Las Mercedes Airport in 1968 it was later renamed Augusto C. Sandino International Airport during the Sandinista regime in 1980s and again in 2001 to Managua International Airport by Arnoldo Aleman. Its name was changed once more in February 2007 to its current name by President Daniel Ortega in honor of Nicaragua's national hero, Augusto César Sandino.
Taca is operating domestic flights to Managua, Bluefields, Bonanza, Corn Island, Puerto Cabezas, Rosita, San Carlos, Siuna, Waspan and international flights to Managua from Guatemala City, Los Angeles, Miami, San José (Costa Rica) and San Salvador.
