Ecuador's largest city and port, Guayaquil, has undergone large amounts of renovation over the years to offer more tourist opportunities. On the Guayas River, Guayaquil, has a beautiful harbour area and is Ecuador's leading economic centre.
The Malecon 2000 promenade is the well-known 3km walking experience along the river, which takes in Palacio de Cristal, the Hemiciclo de La Rotonda monument, and there is also access to the Botanical Gardens from the promenade too. At the end of Malecon you will find 444 numbered steps towards the Faro where at Cerro Santa and Las Penas you will find great views over the city.
Las Penas is an interesting district where the wooden houses have not bee destroyed by fire and is a great place to see old colonial Guayaquil.
