The third largest city in Colombia, Cali, is known as the 'Capital of Salsa' and also for its relaxed atmosphere. Cali, located in the Cauca Valley, has the largest industrial area in Colombia and is home to the most important sugar mills. It is a pleasant city that has shopping centres, excellent modern hotels and restaurants.
The city is home to both colonial buildings and modern architecture most noticeable from its religious buildings.
Every year between Christmas and New Year the Cali Fair is held and the Bull Fighting Festival is one of the most important events of the year in the country.
The surrounding areas of the city are home to many farms and some excellent scenery to enjoy for the day if you fancy getting out of the city for a while. The Sugar Cane Museum is not far from the city either in an area called Hacienda Piedechinche.
